Toshiba made a winner with this laptop, I recommend it with an A+ rating.
I have owned my Toshiba L505D-GS6000 for a couple of years now and I love it. It runs pretty much any program I want it to.
I purchased it because it has a large screen, a number keypad, came with 4 gigs of ram and runs an AMD processor.
The only complaints I have had are that the DVD-RW drive sometimes refuses to play DVDs that I have just burned with it. Even though I test the DVD in a different player and it works just fine.
My second complaint was I wanted to install Ubuntu 10.04 on it, however after a lot of research I discovered that Toshiba apparently did not want it to have any version of Linux installed and they manufactured the core in some way to make it very difficult. However, after much research and learning and effort, I was able to finally install it and get it working. Recently Ubuntu released version 12.04 LTS and I downloaded it and after removing the earlier version installed it with zero issues.
I find that the 4 gigs of ram are sufficient for my needs as well. I regularly use the SD card reader to transfer files from my camera to the laptop and it works great!
Toshiba has a very nice product here and I am very satisfied with my purchase. It suits my needs and computing requirements well.
I used to play Everquest on it and it played better than my old desktop did.
By way of comparison I personally prefer a larger size laptop. I like the large keys and the separate number pad.

Needed to upgrade from a 15 year old router.
1 of 1 found this helpful My old router didn't offer a way to block certain websites from specific devices. I have three young children and with all the garbage on the web my wife and I needed to be able to block certain websites from their and even our access. Some things just don't need to be seen....
This router offers. like many out there today, offers a means to block those sites right at the access point (AP) in our home. We have a smart TV which the children watch, and since YouTube seems to allow all manner garbage nowadays, seemingly in the 'educational' category that includes outright porn and other such things, we needed to block the TV from web access. Also, the children have Kindle tablets with pretty good parental controls, yet we still need to block certain sites or features. Seems some apps were allowing them to access YouTube and other sites inside the apps. Somehow evading the block from the router.
One thing to remember in setting the router up: You need to use the devices MAC Address and not it's IP if you have the router setup to use dynamic host protocol. The DHPC will assign the IP's at random each time the device is turned on. So use it's mac address to apply the filters each time.
All in all, I like this router, it conforms to the wireless ac protocols and is backwards compatible with B. G and N. It also offers a USB 2 and 3 compatible port for cloud routing to share your media in your home.
At the current prices, I got mine for under $30, it's a great value and a cheap upgrade. These went for about $180 when they were new just a couple years back.

Easy to install and works great!
Bought this to replace a broken on on my stove. It was a precise match and took me about 10 minutes to install it. The old burner had been broken for months and we still forget it fixed now! ;-D
