Great Simple Drive but with Drawbacks
1 of 1 found this helpful Had this drive for a while and used with a number of Macs. For a while, it only worked with certain models; as the years went by, it appeared to work with all Mac models.
It's a basic CD/DVD R/W drive; doesn't do anything special (lightscribe, etc.), doesn't do anything particularly fast (USB2), but it does what it does without a hiccup, I find.
These days you can get CD/DVD/BD R/W drives on eBay for half to a third of what the Apple SuperDrive costs when new. You can even get knockoffs that do all this but look a hell of a lot like Apple's offering.
I wouldn't recommend paying full price for the Apple one but it's still worth having if you can pick it up cheap here on eBay -- it's lightweight, takes up very little room, and works as advertised, and is a great in-backpack solution for a basic CD or DVD read, installation, or movie watching.

Simple, Small, Fun
