Gretsch Guitar 5420t Used Black

Some are fantastic out of the box, some are duds !!!

With the fantastic reputation that Gretsch has for great quatlity guitars, this particular series is hit or miss. You can find a superb one hanging next to a complete dud. I would suggest buying in person. I bought 2 from a major online store and had to send both back due to even with a proper set up they would not have played well. I personally own 2 others that are stellar instruments and the 2 I sent back felt like cheap Chinese clones in comparison. The 5420 pickups are a great improvement over the 5120 series to get closer to the Gretsch 'sound'. If you like heavy guage strings and higher action you might be OK with an online purchase OR if you have access to a good luthier who can fix issues or do a proper setup. Again if you can play it in person and do a side by side with another one you will be able to tell if it's for you or not.

Worth every penny !!

Gorgeous/Stunning instrument!! Excellent quality. No flaws, good set up, and that 'Great Gretsch Sound' from the Filtertron pickups. The only issue is I have 3 of these and the other 2 have the treble bleed circuit and this one doesn't. Go figure. Find one on the used market for a few hundred less than the new price and you'll keep it forever. They look and feel like something that would cost twice as much!

Great for slide guitars !!

I use these on all my slide guitars. I like that they are 'not even slinky' and tight. They sound good and last quite awhile on slide guitars.
