I own several of these and give them as gifts.
It will not give you a professionally sharpened & polished edge - but the function is to cut the metal and restore a functional edge. It will make your knives very sharp, very fast. It's the perfect tool for a fishing knife, pocket knife or to sharpen hooks (the V-groove on the side of the tool. Once you own one and use it, you'll wonder why you didn't have it sooner.
Take it from someone who is very handy and has done a LOT of modifications to vehicles and home improvement...The directions to the SmittyBilt Tailgate table are pretty bad. Not that you won't get it together (*eventually), but they could do SO MUCH better at the directions.
Also, if you plan to put this on the inside of the jeep JK tailgate - you won't find any holes that match, so you WILL be buying their SMITTYBILT Rivet-Hole-Screw tool... So be prepared for another $50-60 adding to the installation cost. I can't speak to mounting it outside or elsewhere - because I don't know.
Once installed, it's pretty handy and very rugged. But, Man! There's several hole options in the table (to drill into your tailgate) but they don't inspire confidence when you drill through the first layer of metal, only to find another layer underneath and have no idea if you SHOULD be drilling into that second Chamber.
Maybe SMITTYBILT could do a MUCH better job giving you some advice on this?
Bottom line - the product is made well. It will work well. But installation can be a drag - and worrisome.
Good luck!
