An excellent account of a less well known event of WWI
As relevant today as it was during its time, Silent Night is the account of a spontaneous truce entered into by French and German soldiers Christmas Eve of 1914. After months of relentless shooting and pounding one another with cannon fire, these men crossed enemy lines in a heartfelt celebration of peace and brotherhood, breaking bread together, embracing and discovering seeds of friendship in the enemy. Their enraged commanding officers had no success enforcing their orders to shoot and kill.
The next day the senseless slaughter continued at the insistence of the military command on both sides, but for one night, fraternity and humanity had prevailed.
In our uncertain times today, this book is a powerful message to seek out common ground with those we are constantly told are different and dangerous, and to seek out the human being beneath the stereotype. This book should be required reading for everyone.

What can I say, these are the best....
4 of 5 found this helpful Accept no substitutes. These cute little things are made in Denmark as they have always been, and their level of quality has remained unchanged over the generations, each one filled with a minute amount of the indicated liqueur to impart the exact right note-picante. These things aren't cheap, nor should they be. When you want the standard-bearer in this category, the choice is pretty small. Anthon Berg is it.
