NEW - Hatch Finatic 7 Plus Fly Reel-Clear/Blue Mid Arbor
Aug 21, 2017
Smooth as silk, but a bit heavy.
This reel is exquisitely crafted. The drag is smooth as silk. I think you will find it too heavy if you are trying to balance a 7- or maybe even an 8-weight, but I think it is perfect with a 9-weight.
This is billed as the perfect cross-over reel for salt and freshwater fishing, but I think it is an overkill even for monster trout -- and I have caught them to 11 pounds (the Lamson or Ross reels are much lighter, easier to handle, and has plenty good drag to deal with any freshwater fish).
I personally think this reel is perfect for inshore saltwater fishing. Flats fishes like permits, bones, baby tarpons, and snooks. Should be great for Doradoes, roosters, jacks, blues, and stripers as well.
Btw, it seems Hatch has a new model, so these reels are going on sale for the first time. There should be some good deals in the coming weeks.

Elegant, strong, and light. Best there is.
I did a lot of research and in my opinion this is the best 8-weight reel currently available at any price. It has a stronger and more adjustable drag than the Nautius CCF, Orvis Mirage, or Hatch Gen 2. It is also lighter than these other reels. It is not cheap, but it is sturdy and smooth and (in my opinion) quite asthetically beautiful.

DSLR users' point-and-shoot
4 of 4 found this helpful This one is a keeper. I own multiple full-frame DSLRs and dozens of lenses for them. But I was intrigued by the reviews on this super zoom point-and-shoot, and decided to give it a try.
The bottom line is this is an incredible camera. Not just because of the price. It is likely my favorite to carry around right now. It is light and easy to use; the quality is surprisingly good and you do have quite a bit of control in P and M modes.
The 2000mm zoom is insane. No kidding... you can get crystal clear shots of the moon with all its craters without using a tripod. The long lens also allows for discrete shooting without disturbing the subjects (people or wildlife). There is also a surprisingly sharp macro mode.
It is not ideal for really low light photography, but other than that, this one is the perfect grab-and-go camera for me.
