keeps your old analog TV going strong
1 of 1 found this helpful Pros: One of the only digital to analog boxes available in the US with S-Video, which produces a much sharper image than RCA cables; in my opinion as good as HD from a distance. When friends learn this is OTA (over the air antenna), they ask themselves why they have cable.
Cons:
1) Our previous box, Channel Master 7000, had a TV guide in the menu showing what was coming up later on different channels. This box only tells you what you are watching right now.
2) This box does not seem to allow you to add channels manually. This is a problem if you have a fixed indoor antenna that picks up some channels in one position and others in another position. How do you know when to move the antenna while it is doing an autoscan?
Other: No reviews indicate these boxes have limited life, unlike some. My Channel Master 7000, also S-video capable, died after 7 years when the power button turned red and would not ever change color. Bad capacitors on that one according to reviews.

lasted 4 months
after 4 months of use (brand new unit in original packaging), prematurely developed loose connection in earbud/headphone jack. al buds/phones tried work perfectly, both ears, in other units but no longer ever in this one,.
Other issues: Reception was never great near metal objects, wires, vehicles with transmitters, etc.. Volume wheel may make volume too loud or soft when bumped during sports--this can damage your hearing. You can tape the volume wheel in preferred position until loud traffic or conversation or music is encountered, then take a break from listening and hope you can follow what's happening when you can hear it again. Incidentally, volume wheel is a problem with the old Sony Walkman equivalent as well, but at least that has better reception and a better build quality. Radio Shack version lasted and had volume buttons.

maybe they don't make them anymore?
For now, sit tight, as I suspect these batteries have been doing for a while, before buying. Dates on both of twp purchased were years old, and they only charged 3/4 of the way up in the charger. The charger charges my older batteries all the way up. However, in the camera itself, connected to an outlet, the new ones charged all the way up. Maybe they just need to get conditioned again. Waiting for report from my wife to see how fast they drain.
