Cost effective + sleek design!
I recently bought a used Subaru WRX hatchback (2013) and was really unhappy with the performance and gas mileage of the existing setup (Turboback exhaust, front mount intercooler, and Cobb SF intake). Performance seemed to fluctuate significantly due to air temperatures, and on my best days I was getting 17 MPG, even driving conservatively; I had a strong suspicion that the intake setup had something to do with my problems.
The previous owner had installed a Cobb Short Feed (SF) intake on the vehicle, but removed the stock airbox and did not install a heat shield for this intake; after doing some research and speaking with other WRX owners, I came to the conclusion that this setup was actually just drawing hot air from the engine bay, and really doing me no favors!
I started looking around for a new intake, and found the TurboXS Cold Air model for my vehicle. The intake really seemed perfect from the start; the price point was very competitive compared to other options (GrimmSpeed, Perrin, etc.), and it was reported to fit easily on vehicles equipped with a front mount intercooler.
After installing this intake (which took all of 10 minutes, since my factory airbox was already gone) I flashed an ECU map designed specifically for this intake and my other modifications, which I purchased from Eric of Torqued Performance.
I can honestly say I am completely satisfied with this intake. The combination of the turbo spool and the intake is a beautiful sound, which is louder and more pronounced with the Turbo XS compared to the Cobb SF. I really feel like the car is breathing a lot easier, and performing better, and my gas mileage is right around 22 MPG, even driving with freedom, and not being afraid to get into boost throughout the day.
This is a great product for the money required, I highly recommend it in light of the $300+ price tags of some alternatives; the quality and performance are awesome, and I absolutely LOVE the simple, slick look of the stainless tubing - it's clean and sharp, a great piece of eye candy when showing others the engine bay.
