Vintage fun .
For those fortunate to have one . The box is twice the size of a normal car or truck kit . Pros and cons .
Pro : pin and hole construction , great detailing in the boats front molded in wood grain . 2 sets of instructions for the van and boat . The boat half's fit together great . Low to no mold lines . Crisp clean molds .
Cons : two piece tire construction for each tire 12 total half tires / 6 whole tires for the van and boat . Decals are old and on a single sheet of paper where you have to cut the decals out yourself instead of the decal paper having individual images seperated . The boats 427 engine air intake has a defect in the upper chrome half , and plastic rods for the tire axles instead of metal ones . Recomend using utility marker flag metal rods to replace them . ( Modeling tip ) . Lots of small parts , recommend a spec of glue and a steady hand .

Interesting , fun build with camper top , optional parts included
Pro's first - They updated the molds to a higher standard of detail in all the parts . Comes with 1 engine block with 3 different ways to build it as a stock 327 , a street racer engine , or a full blown drag engine . Optional Camper with updated and crisper detail than the original ( cus I have an original camper top ) , The camper will fit without extra coercion than if you tried to put it on a '66 El Camino body or a " 59 Elcamino body . Little to no extra plastic / molding flash and what little is there can be removed with a flick of a exacto knife . 2 huge drag tires for the back and a extra front suspension for the raising of the front ( if your building the drag version ) . Comes in molded light grey , chrome plated parts and clear window pieces .
Con's - The bottom of the engine block and oil pan is in pieces to accommodate the metal rod going though it for the tires . Janky at best . A few extra parts on the trees that can not be found in the instructions and the instructions are step-by-step , but not very well illustrated . If you build the drag version , you will have to cut out the rear wheel wells to fit the fat tires , but there is a light score mark where to cut on the inside of the rear body panel , but is no guarantee of a smooth cut . The hood has the same score mark , just deeper and shows / ghost's through the top , from the top . To make it disappear , you'd have to fill it in with squadron putty if you build it as a stock build / look .
OVER-ALL - not a bad kit , I would buy another . The decals are old new stock , no change in image or size .
left pic is of the Cali-style 1966 El Camino I tried to fit the '65 camper top onto and didn't fit . The camper top is meant for the '65 El Camino only . The '66-es bed is slightly shorter than the '65 and with the camper top on leaves a noticeable gap .

No thrills build , low quality in details , very little to actually build , at least the parts fit .
Pro - it has a good fit of all parts and easy to assemble kit . Lifting rear engine cover , o.k. detailing , rolling wheels . Water-slide decals Martini racing .
Cons - Not as many parts to attach or paint . has o.k. detail , but feels more like a toy quality than you would find in a highly detailed model kit esp . for a proud tradition for a Porsche LeMans winner . I say a "Toy-Like " quality because of the molded in rear bottom seen engine to the frame and then inside the engine bay a hollow engine one-piece molded form with o.k. detailing . Honestly , really disappointed in the engine detailing , 2 piece ( whole ) construction of the engine , eh - interior with very little options or detailed interior , no thrills in intricate details in the fender holes ( no fine filter material or plastic inserts , really is a dull build and a shame that it didn't receive better care or concern in it's 1/24th scale construction .
