DEDINI An Orgy of Playboy Eldon Dedini Fantagraphics 1st Printing 2006 w/ DVD

An Orgy of FUN!
A "Boomer" I grew up in L.A.where my Dad operated his own foreign car repair shop for forty+ years - Playboy was as much a staple in the shop as were spark plugs, grease, oil, bench racing, and highballs. Not only was the art of those great Playboy cartoonists - with Eldon Dedini at the forefront - provocative for a young guy growing up in the 60's and 70's, but to this day, seeing these incredible art pieces allow me - even if fleetingly - to go back in time, wherein I can see and hear my late father laughing and teasing about the "features" in Playboy. Essentially - for me at least - the art of Dedini enables going back to a much better time in So Cal. If you're a fan of Dedini and the other great cartoonists of the 50's, 60's and 70's - Hank Ketcham, Richard Cavalli, Virgil Partch - you will LOVE this book, as it truly is a time machine. The paper, cover, binding and all of the other production qualities are top notch, suitable for ANY coffee table, and the DVD documentary - while a bit short for those of us who loved Dedini's work - is incredible as well. A must for Dedini admirers.....

Holly Jolly Christmas by Burl Ives - A winner!
This is a great, great Christmas album, even for - or maybe especially for - those too young to know about the incredibly versitile talent that was Burl Ives; if you've never seen it, his role as "Big Daddy" in "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" is not to be missed. The simple and traditional arrangements on every song on this disc is classic. If you play guitar and like to sing to your children or simply sing to your children these tunes and the way they're played are especially good. A "can't miss" album and only recently back in production....
