save wear and tear on switch

The only time that you need to "click" the switch is when you turn it on or off. You can cycle the modes without fully engaging the switch. Push just enough to change modes. Try it. The switch will last you that much longer.

Drifts horribly on AM to the point of being unusable.

I bought one of these NIB and wish I had not. You simply cannot lock on to an AM station due to drifting. I would tune it in and a second later it would drift off-frequency. If not a horrible design, certainly horrible execution. FM works ok.
