Does what it is supposed to do
The instructions for installation are somewhat confusing, particularly the cabling requirements, and the manual for the PP 86DSP itself on setting up the device is also somewhat lacking. Nevertheless, it works, and now I have the choice between listening to the car's head unit or to an external device such as a Fiio.
