Kept him busy!
At first, I was hesitant about the balsa wood in the cupcake area in this toy. My cockatiel loved this toy and got busy with it immediately! He was pecking away at the balsa wood—still has a bit left—and loved shredding the paper. Bonka knows how to keep my bird Chipper!

A "Sweet" Must!
If purchasing this DVD--especially if you're at least fairly knowledgeable of the Sweet's history and if you keep up to date with the surviving band members--DO realize the title of this product. Though the date of this product is 2003, only recently this DVD was made available in American and/or no Region Code Format, unless you know of ways to play PAL format--I don't, and transferring, along with overseas purchase can cost a bit. Nevertheless, indeed to watch "The Sweet: Here And Now" was beyond "sweet"--no pun intended--it was glorious. The approximately 78 minute DVD is divided into two sections: "Archive Footage" and "New Footage." The "Archive" consists of videos of songs of Sweet's classic line-up, some of these videos I've never seen. There are a couple of them post lead singer Brian Connolly's departure from the band where bassist Steve Priest sings lead--"Give The Lady Some Respect" and "Sixties Man." I'd never seen these; I'd heard the songs but now watching Steve as a lead singer(he also sings lead on "California Nights;" rather ironic because he'd soon move there)without Brian showed me how he carried the band during a tough time--late 70's, when they had disco and punk rock among their competitors. Additionally, I'd thought that original lead singer Brian Connolly was probably one of the most versatile lead singers in history--he takes a break from his fiery rocking it out to sharing a ballad "Letters of Love(French title);" I don't know off-hand who the female co-lead was...but again, I was getting that chance to see another facet of the band members. I should mention that I'm from the States; the Sweet didn't quite the recognition here as they did in their native Britain, yet many bands were influenced by them. If you knew of the "Glam Rock" Era in the early '70's--which I believe was more recognizable in Britain, possible parts of Europe but not sure--most likely the Sweet would be a first pick along with Marc Bolan/T-Rex, Gary Glitter, etc. In the States, if you mention the Sweet, one might say," oh they sang 'Little Willy;'" I'd say it's safe to say that the Sweet really didn't get the credit--as musicians--that they rightfully deserved in the USA. Back to the "Archives," let's not forget Mick keeping up the beat throughout...excellent! As far as "New Footage," this might be where, if one is not aware of the Sweet's history, and the "now," there could be a bit of confusion. I had been aware of Andy forming his own "Sweet" band on the UK/European side but really didn't have much access to the information regarding his band. Additionally, although there is a gallery of photos, there is no list of who the members were at the time of the DVD. Naturally I already knew Andy but I had to search the band's site about who was the lead singer at the time. However, this was a very trivial issue for me, not to take away from this DVD's value. The "New Footage" is all Andy Scott's Sweet--I think that was what he referred to the band as; I could be wrong. This is a definite MUST for any Sweet fan; I was glad when this was made available for American DVDs...ever "sweet" to experience!

Rare Monkeeshines worth listening to!
I originally bought this CD as this contained a number of songs that I heard on "The Monkees" television show that weren't available commercially--e.g. "All the King's Horses," the television versions of "Valleri," "Words," "I'll Be Back Up on My Feet" and a number of other songs. Being a musician as well as an admirer of the Monkees, it is not very easy to look at this CD from both sides. I can say that I thoroughly enjoyed this product and there were some pleasant surprises...should I mention them? You will hear one of them towards the end of the TV version of "Words;" one might consider it to be rather "psychedelic." I have always enjoyed the television version of "Valleri" rather than the single one...for those not familiar, this has a slower tempo but still has the harmonies. There are a number of alternate versions of songs throughout this CD such as "Hold On, Girl" with a slower tempo and additional lyrics, the concert version of "Circle Sky" from the Monkees' flick "Head" and "I Wanna Be Free" as heard from the Monkees "pilot" TV episode. It is very safe for me to say that I was not disappointed, that listening to this compilation helped me to be aware of the Monkees' abilities as singers, musicians, and performers...additionally as songwriters(check out Davy Jones' co-written "Changes" with a bit of showtune vibe to it). I had always felt that the Monkees had always been among one of the most underrated bands in rock n' roll, yet they did have much competition during their time. Right now, with the tragic and untimely death of Davy Jones, it is very sad that it takes this major loss for people to halt and say, among other questions, "What kind of band were the Monkees like?" From what I understand, this product is out-of-print, but I venture a guess that Jones' death may have an affect on this, and other Monkees' recordings. By all means, if you do get a hand on this product, whether or not you admire the Monkees, buy it! It is not only Monkees' history but music history in one CD.
