The Island of Dr. Moreau (DVD 1997)
This movie does sufficient justice to the original 19th Century science fiction classic that it can be used as supplemental material in a literature course. Twentieth Century and other Hollywood modifications to the original story are evident, but they are not so prevalent as to degrade the story or its provocative themes.

And indeed, no one has done a better job since. This is THE production of TOMATS to watch and rewatch, whether you've read the book or not.
