Great read
Great writing. Very moving story. Characters are very real and believable. Heartwarming story of old white man and captive young girl in the old west.

Lively Book Club Selection
1 of 3 found this helpful Excellent book, causing a very lively, lengthy discussion at my last Book Club meeting. Even though it is well written, it is dark and disturbing, many in the group had strong negative feelings about it.

Very good book full of colorful characters in the Texas Panhandle.
1 of 1 found this helpful Annie Proulx is an excellent writer, who obviously does a ton of research on her subjects. The details are myriad and spot on.
The only complaint I have is the dialogue. It is almost there, but not quite. Since I grew up in the region, I have a discerning ear for it. The things the characters say ring true, but their pronunciation is off.
It’s a good, compelling story. I would recommend it for anyone who likes Annie Proulx and wants to read about the Panhandle.
