Steel Magnolias Parallels My Life
This is a movie I first watched when it was newly released. Over the years, I have caught it on various cable stations and have always found that after watching it, I was uplifted and inspired.
When watching it for the first time, I never dreamed that I would, in many ways have to walk in Malynn's (Sally Field's character) shoes. In 1997, my husband of 22 years suffered an inter-cerebral hemorrhage that has left him permantly disabled and in a 24-hour care facility.
Seeing the courage that Malynn has in dealing with her daughter's illness; her tenacious nature in refusing to give in, when others would have; the grace which carries her through the many twists and turns of caring for an entire family; the neverending sense of humor; and abiding love of family are all things that I have gone through within the past nine years.
This movie has helped me time and time again helped me to adjust to all of the changes and challenges that I have been faced with and has given me a peace and calm after many tumultuous storms.
