Allergy sufferer
The fan is quiet at the lower speeds, at speed 5 and 6 it sounds like a small box fan. The unit got rid of my allergies super quick, it's pricey but it works; I can't say the same with the other air purifiers I have bought in the past. Keep in mind: the lower the speed of the fan the longer the filters will last, which are quite expensive.

Air filter
Just purchased this house in late January, discovered a dirty air filter. I replaced the current air filter with a generic one from Home Depot, it was an off size so they were the only ones who had it. I kept hearing a sound like something was slamming down and was always wondering what it was until one day I was by the intake of my a/c and I heard it, it was my filter slamming down after the air turned off. I special ordered the new air filters off eBay and not only are they built better and have better filtration, they are also 2" thick, so no more slamming down of the air filter!
