The Everly Brothers' Country Rock
This CD combines three albums by the Everly Brothers: The Hit Sound of the Everly Brothers (Feb. 1967), The Everly Brothers Sing (July 1967), and Roots (December 1968). Roots, one of the brothers' best, is today regarded as a pioneering work of country rock. The previous two albums, excellent in themselves, demonstrate developments in the the Everlys' music that culminated in the their innovative work in Roots. Of course one might argue that they had been playing country rock from their first records in 1957. The Everlys' background was in country music--in fact they were originally signed by Cadence Records as country music artists. The musical movement of rock & roll in the late 1950s combined the sounds of country music and rhythm & blues to produce the new sound that captured the feelings and concerns of young people coming of age in the 1950s and 1960s. Roots is the perfect title for the third album in this set because it shows where the Everlys' came from musically and how those roots led to the music they were singing and playing in the late 1960s. Bringing Roots together with their two previous albums provides additional insight into this development.

A must-have for Everly fans
This edition of "A Date with the Everly Brothers" reproduces the original cover as well as the original photos of the Everly Brothers that came with the album. Released in 1960, it was the second album that they recorded with Warner Brothers. It features three songs written by Don and Phil ("Cathy's Clown," "That's Just Too Much," and "Sigh, Cry, Almost Die") and a fourth song written by Phil ("Made to Love"). in addition there are four bonus tracks from the same period.
It's a must-have for Everly fans as well as an excellent introduction for listeners just getting to know the Everly Brothers' music.
