Good priced quad-core 1366 x 768 resolution laptop.
It's lighter than my other two Toshiba laptops. Not too bad as far as weight. The only reason I answered "no" to "does it have long battery life" is because I rarely use it for long periods on battery power, so it's an 'unknown'. It works well although it came with a 5400 rpm drive. Upgrading to a SSD makes a world of difference. (To be fair...I don't run a regular HHD on any computer as the OS drive. As far as the operation system...wow...this was my first Windows 10. That may be fine for the social-media always connected type person, but for an ol' codger like myself...not so great. It does much better, IMO, since I replaced Windows 10 with Windows 7 and/or Linux Mint. (Haven't decided yet which I'll leave on it, but both are better than Win10). One of the major reason I bought this was because of the 1366 x 768 resolution which for my preference, makes it much easier to see images and especially text.

Mostly a desktop replacement...
0 of 1 found this helpful Very solid. Definitely not lightweight. No idea about battery life as I use it plugged in. I got it to compliment my older XP desktop: photos, music, some video stuff with tapes from an old camcorder. Love it. Multi-tasks without breaking a sweat. The only issue I have with it is the touchpad (and why it's only suited as a desktop replacement). I've tried different drivers, fixes, tweaks and settings. The touchpad is horrible. Worthless. The cursor is absolutely erratic. Jumps around all over the place, hesitates, stops. For some reason even the proper Dell touchpad driver software has the "sensitivity" adjustment option missing. I have several Dells that use the same driver package and this M4700 is the only one with that issue. But since I use it as a desktop, it's not a deal-breaker.

Used but works perfect
The climate controls hadn't worked, correctly, for quite a few years. We tolerated it, but now our daughter bought the vehicle. We didn't want her driving around in the metropolitan areas where she lives without having reliable heat/defrost in the winter. This worried me a little, buying a used Climate Control, but the price was right! We viewed some online videos about how to change out the climate control. It went pretty fast for an old man and a young gal. And the climate control fit perfectly and also is working perfectly.
