Beware of opaque/dark FL display!
Don’t get me wrong, this was a great, top-shelf (Mobile ES series) cassette deck with 4v & low-impedance preouts, Dolby B/C, full logic mechanism and all of the Unilink features to command CD changers, DSP preamps and more, BUT this and its brother CD deck, the CDX-C910 always suffered from bad Fluorescent retro-illuminated displays which would eventually but inevitably die. Fixing this problem always required an original Sony flat FL light part which they stopped manufacturing many years ago and is no longer available. In fact many technicians started sourcing faceplates from the cassette deck to fix the more popular CDX-C910 CD deck, since the actual display would remain and all that was needed would be that elusive FL light panel or the external power supply brick connected by a duplex cable to the back of the unit (its purpose was to be installed away from chassis to minimize noise interference). When buying one of these, even if its display is working fine, you’re literally getting an awesome stereo with amazing sound quality, that unfortunately is guaranteed to have a FL display failure that’s not repairable. This seemed to be common practice for Sony back in the late 90’s and early 2000’s, just like on many awesome Walkman devices with OEL (organic electro luminiscent) displays, which would inevitably die after a few years.

Neat 80's look to complement your old Walkman but no high frequency sounds whatsoever!
Very neat design and of a high quality finish in assembly and usage (no sharp edges).
Unfortunately the sound quality leaves quite a bit to be desired in the upper high frequency range, since there's pretty much no music reproduction above 9 kHz, so the playback of cymbals and other high frequency sounds in the top octave is basically non existent.
Bass is quite good for such lightweight and open headphones design, and midrange frequencies are acceptable, not too uneven or tiring.
I cannot complain too much knowing these were affordable and of a good brand (KOSS), but the total lack in the reproduction of the highest frequencies was a letdown.

5 very nicely colored MDs in a compact carry-on case
Excellent set of 80-minute MiniDiscs in 5 different colors in a lightweight and very compact carry box.
I ended up choosing this set instead of the older 75-minute sets more commonly available, not only for the additional capacity of each MD, but also because the carry box is much smaller and lighter (although flimsier) than the one included with those other older 75-min sets, likely made from a thicker polycarbonate.
One pleasing surprise was finding out the 5 MDs are actually of different colors, since it's hard to tell from typical eBay pictures, as I had thought perhaps the Blue-colored MD would be repeated, but it turns out one's Violet and one's Blue, so 5 different translucent colors in total (Blue, Violet, Red, Orange & Black). One additionally nice detail is that the metallic tab that covers the inner MD media is actually painted in the same color as the MD translucent case on all 5 colors, instead of the raw & bright metal used on the older 75-minute MDs.
