Good starter ear monitor
The ALD-800 comes tuned into 8 frequencies matched to their transmitters. They are a solid receiver that we have used in our church for years for Spanish translation since any number of receivers can be used within 300 ft of the transmitter. The ear buds are mono with a mono mini plug so off the shelf ear pieces do not do well with this unless you buy an adapter for mono 1/8" male to stereo 1/8" female plug. These have held up pretty well to the large number of different users we have unless they let the kids get hold of them. You can not use two frequencies in the same area but you might get away with AA and maybe HH due to cross interference with each other and the signals will be blocked. While there are other monitors available, those are pretty cost prohibitive for a large set (congregational) usage and that makes this a viable alternative.

Number the Stars by Lois Lowry
This story of the friendship between a young girl and her Jewish neighbor during World War II is core reading for fifth or sixth grade and is written at that level. The author uses each situation to define the character of the heroes in the story giving a positive light to loyalty and family. At the climax of the story, the heroines resolve to save her friend is tested and she comes through the experience with a new appreciation of her family during those trying times. The protagonists exhibit character that is often missing in today's world and this reading gives a wonderful example of mores needing to be learned by all.
