Toho: Godzilla & Mothra aren't all they did that was entertaining
Great movies all three! If you like swiss cheese (i.e. cheesy movies with plot holes) then this is for you! The Mysterians had great effects and a 'creature on a rampage'. Varan I had only seen the American version and this one is FAR superior (plus you get to see Varan *fly* which is cut from the American version). Matango is SUCH a creepy acid-trip with a lot of tension and unanswered questions building up to a big payoff at the end. All three are treated as straight-up drama and if anything is 'camp' it was almost certainly unintentional as they all have serious plots and acting throughout. Not intended to be comedies but more thought-provoking in nature. Out of the 3 Mysterions is probably the closest to cheesy. Varan was Godzilla 'ish'. Matango was intense suspense. Personally I liked all 3 and won't let go of them now that I've watched them...I am pleased to have them as part of the Toho collection I have! NOTE: I watched all 3 in original language with English subtitles as voice-overs are waaaay to idiotic in tone for my liking. I prefer to hear the emotion in the original actors voices even if I have to read what they are saying to understand them.
