Another Mac Gerdst gem
This is a remake of Antike, one of Mac Gerdst's earliest games, I believe. I have never played Antike, but i understand that the designer's objective of the re-make was to reduce the amount of player v player conflict, by adding more "neutral" space on the board and by making military more expensive. This is one of his Rondel games, which means that players choose their actions from a circular list of 8 possible actions printed on the board. Generally, players pick one of the next 3 spaces on the Rondel to select their action, which limits the number of options and keeps the game moving along. The winner is the first player to achieve a specified number of points (based on the number of players) by accomplishing specific objectives. It appears easier than it is! There are some mechanics that allow players to slow down the leader.
