Great experience

Great system that fell too fast to the Playstation
The Nintendo 64 at its time had incredible graphics. I remember renting the system at Blockbuster and being amazed by the water effects in Waverace 64, as well as the whale swimming below me. The system had some great titles, such as Super Mario 64, Goldeneye, Perect Dark, the Zelda games, Super Smash Bros., and more.
The system was not without its downsides, however. The fact that the games were cartridge based hurt the system. This lead to lower quality sound and other things the Playstation had. Nintendo released an expansion pack which boosted the graphics and run rate, but the thing was huge and tended to overheat.
The biggest problem, however, was the lack of 3rd party support. If you go to any site that lists the N64's greatest games, count how many were not made by Nintendo. While this could simply mean that Nintendo was kicking butt in quality, look at the overall games list compared to the Playstation's.
This still is a great system, but the strong success of the Playstation eventually doomed it.
