If you have the old version, DON'T upgrade to this unit
1 of 2 found this helpful The saw is practically identical to the old 18V Dewalt 6 1/2" circular saw (DC390). The base plate appears to be come cheaply made from pressed steel rather than formed aluminum. The motor might be a bit better, but when I compared them side-by-side with fully charged batteries (18V 3AH Ni-MH and 20V 3.0AH lithium), the saws were almost neck and neck. And the 18V lasted just as long using the Ni-MH upgraded battery. The most notable improvement on the new DCS393, is the removal of the trigger finder "hole", allowing better access to the trigger with gloves on. AND, of course the lithium battery is better at holding a charge for long periods.
