    Short But Sweet
I have been a Nikon junkie, Nikon School attendee, Nikon collector for many many years, and don't have much time or verbage to embellish on this one, but I will say I also had a Nikon D80 and 2 pro bodies, the Nikon D1 and D1X, and parted with both, not that they were not great cameras in their full heavy and sturdy fashion, but I simply had too many cameras at that point..and which did I choose to keep? The D70..a full-featured, lighter weight body, still accepts virtually all Nikkor F mount lenses unlike the D80, and again, even at 6+MP resolution, does everything and more most amature to semi-pro/pro backups would need. It can be easily upgraded via online downloads ala Nikon for a few more perks of the D70S model, making it virtually the same except for a slightly smaller viewing screen. The humble D70 still retains the classic magnesium weather-dust-resistant body that the pro lines boast of, but is far lighter in weight and has the standard pop-up flash as well as hot shoe endorsements for more detailed pro settings. All in all, it's a true Nikon with many many features, minus the weight and cost of the full pro bodies, and very novice friendly for a student, and has all a semi-pro or hobby/vacation/amature wedding shooter would ever need. Destined to be another in Nikon's line of better classics. Do your own homework, and then grab one.. you will not be sorry with the results.

    It'a all good (again)
I deal in Nikons on Ebay all of the time and as my ME section suggests, I have a fair amount of experience with most of them (and own far too many) but these have always been one of my favorites. I won't duplicate all of the praises already given, but simply stated, if you are a novice and want to explore these things we called film cameras before the digital age emerged, or like both formats, this is an incredibly lightweight, compact, full-featured and dependable part of Nikon history that probably won't ever be duplicated. It IS important to remember that the FG is very battery-sensitive and will throw a shutter lockup tantrum if the battery runs low. I suggest good quality lithium batteries (takes either two 1.5V or one single cell 3V). Offered in both chrome and black bodies reasonably here on Ebay in the $50-$100 range (black looks really classy with a nice Nikkor f/1.4 or f/1.8 lens, but is more scratch and fingerprint sensitive) they still get my vote. Get a nice clean one from a reputable seller while you still can!
