DC Heroes is The Greatest Super Hero RPG ever written!
DC Heroes is the GREATEST SUPER HERO RPG of ALL TIME! It is the ONLY RPG where you ACTUALLY COMPARE the Attacker's Acting Value versus the Defender's Opposing Value - to give you a Target Number. Then you roll 2d10 and can generate column shifts based on the roll that will do additional damage. Roll above your Target Number and you will do additional damage.
Then you go to the Result Table and compare the Attacker's Effect Value versus the Defender's Resistance Value and apply any column shifts to find out how much damage you deal. Column Shifts are also used to determine Knockback so when you punch someone, it will determine how far they go flying backwards from the force of your hit.
Your dice can also explode if you roll doubles of any number. So if you roll double 5's, then you can reroll the dice and add it to the result.
It also has a point buy system for Attributes, Powers, and Skills with full write ups on what each one does and how they work.You can also take drawbacks to gain Attribute Points. Any leftover points then become Hero Points. These can also be spent in combat to temporarily increase your Acting, Effect, Opposing, or Resistance Values in combat to hit, deal more damage, or save you from dying. Hero Points in DC Heroes was the first system that I had ever seen that had a mechanic that works like Bennies or Fate Points in other games. They pioneered it.
All Attributes, Powers, and Skills have a numerical value where each value is an exponent of the previous value. That means a Strength of 6 is twice as strong as a Strength of 5. Everything is measured in Attribute Points, including weight, distance, and time. Looking at Flash's Superspeed you knew how fast he could run just by comparing it to the Distance chart. It even incorporated equations such as Distance = Speed + Time so you could easily do the math to figure how far he could travel in X amount of time.
It's an elegant system that allows you to actually compare which super heroes and villains are better than the other. Just looking at a Hero or Villains stats you can easily see what Powers and Skills that they have and what their rating is. You will easily know what they can do as opposed to Mutants and Masterminds which has Feats where you have to actually look up each one to know what it does. This is a simple system that will not give you a headache.
The boxed set includes a GM's Manual, a Player's Manual, and Powers & Skills Manual, An Adventure for the Teen Titans called a A Titan Nevermore, a GM Screen, Hero Cards with Stats, and Hero Stand Ups with plastic stands to use if you don't have miniatures.
