Good vocal mic
I bought this mic on a recommendation from a friend, remind me to buy him a drink, I love this mic, so far I've only used it for vocals, it's warm and smooth and very good for close mic vocals for softer more intimate vocal style, seems a little more resistant to popping then other mics I have...by the way so you know where I'm coming from the other mics I have are a AT 4033 a Oktava MK 319 an old MXL 2001 and a couple of 57's nothing high end but they all have something cool about them.
So I was pretty happy with it out of the box, however finally I couldn't help myself and found I just had to pop the thing open and check out what was inside I voided the warranty because the screws were cheap and rounded out almost immediately....inside a very simple clean design, with a 6072 tube AKA 12AY7, on closer inspection I realized that the tube was a cheap old Chinese piece of .....Lucky for me I had an old USA 12AY7 laying around and wow what and incredible difference it made! It really brought out that Vintage sound that I was looking for, The mic went from being pretty good to AMAZING!
For the price the mic is a good buy even with the stock Chinese tube, but I would seriously suggest replacing it with an old USA 12AY7, they are kinda rare and a bit pricey right now but it will be worth it because it defiantly takes the mic up a notch or two. I give it a rating of Good if stock Excellent with the upgrade.
