Tape was broken
The first time I put the tape in to listen to it, after a couple songs the cassette stopped playing. I carefully removed it from the player and found that the tape was mangled even beyond where my player had stopped playing. It seems obvious to me that some one backed the tape up prior to the issue so that upon inspection it would appear intact. I bought a completely useless cassette tape.
