Convenient hub for online streaming content
5 of 5 found this helpful This is the first streaming media player i have used...besides apps on a TV or DVD player. But this has been far superior to anything else i used before. It's easy to setup/use and some of the features that i didn't seem that important (to me), have proved useful, e.g., voice searching. The unit and interface are very responsive and i usually have little buffering.
My setup uses a 200 mb/s broadband, with the roku connected via wi-fi on a 5GHz band. The broadband was part of a bundle promotion that included the internet and a basic cable service plus a promo subscription to HBO and Showtime (so no added fees for those two).
There are a lot of Roku channels to choose from with a wide range of content (much of which is free). I have channels that require a subscription as well: TWCTV, HBO GO, Showtime GO, Hulu, Netflix, Beachbody on Demand, etc.
The key thing for me is that whether the content is with or without subscription costs, i have a single remote and access point for everything, there're even MIT Courseware (free) and Allrecipes channels.
I cut my other cable service and have gone to OTA antenna and Roku as my content sources. Hulu and OTA antenna are getting us all the current TV series content, while Netflix gets us all the past seasons we are interested in receiving. I have been more and more pleased as i continue using the system.
