The Gulf: The Making of An American Sea by Davis, Jack E.
Feb 06, 2019
If you decide to read it fact check everything! More than the passing error in it.
Many errors of fact. This from a old commercial fisherman ( no....not a "fisher" as the author is want to call us. ) who owned a shrimp boat, strung nets and wandered the Gulf.
What worries me when I read a book on such a far ranging subject is that if I am picking up errors in areas I am intimately familiar with, and biases too ( Yes, I have mine. ) then what else of substance has he gotten wrong in areas where I have no ability to know he is wrong?
To his credit he tackled a LARGE subject.......but maybe better to go smaller, and get it right?
Will leave readers with more than a few wrong impressions.
