"Ball bearings are not the answer."
1 of 3 found this helpful After installing this ball bearing unit it was apparent that it runs noisier than the original Bell & Gossett sleeved bearing unit. The sleeved bearing unit is very quiet compared to this ball bearing unit. The ball bearing unit failed after a year and a few weeks elapsed time. The inner bearing closest to the impeller started squealing. Additionally there was evidence of a small amount of water leakage out the vent hole. The ball bearing unit only had six months total run time on it. I replaced the ball bearing unit with the original 20 year old Bell & Gossett unit with a new seal kit installed. It runs quiet and does not leak.
