a good game, that is frustratingly hard at times
1 of 1 found this helpful need for speed the run, the game follows a simple plot of a man, wanted dead by the mob, trying to earn back his freedom, in this case a cross country street race with 250 other drivers.
the game looks visually stunning, the background vistas, and car details are great. the game starts out really great, but it quickly becomes extremely frustrating.... i'll give you an example of what i mean, the game limits you to 5 "resets" per race, reseting you back to the last checkpoint you past. the game will automatically reset you if you go even slightly off the road, i can not tell you how many times i lost a race in the last courner because i went slightly off the road, (i mean literally, in some cases, 1 wheel slightly off the road, reseted me) as well, the game automatically resets you if you "wrecked" your car, which will happen ALOT, most of the guard rails in the game break away, but usually (and for an unknown reason as well) have a solid part somewhere in the middle, which you will hit and total the car. and unlike most other arcade racing games, hitting cars, even slightly, results in wrecking the car, this isn't just a result of bad driving, cops, mobsters, and other racers have pushed me into street posts, other cars, or off cliffs.
After awhile the game becomes AGONIZINGLY FRUSTRATING!
another thing, the cars all feel strage when you race them, the exhotics (you Lamborghini's, Audi's. and others.) all feel slugish, and severly underpowered. and barely get to 160. as apposed to unrealistic other cars in the game such as a 1969 boss 302 mustang, (which is easily fast than the lambo) will do 195-200 (which is not even possible in real life) this doesn't sound like a big deal, i loved racing muscle cars in this game. but when you racing on a snow covered mountain in an AWD nissan GT-R and your losing to 3 0's elcaminos all going 200 mph..... this is a BS moment in video gaming. its also extremely short, (not counting the hours of resets i had to do) you could easily beat it in 4 hours for the main campaign
despite all the hair=pulling frustration, i did find myself coming back and back.... its a good game, just frustraingly hard (from a person who plays dark souls easily....)
i would STRONGLY recomend (if you haven't played it already) to buy Forza Horizon, i 15$ for a sealed copy of NFS the run, and horizon could be picked up in the 25-32$ range.... if you can, PAY THE EXTRA, forza horizon is a ALL ROUND better game, better cars, better system, better songs, better everything.
if you can pick it up for under 10$ used.... then its a deal, this game wasn't bad by any means, it was just anoyingly hard at points.

resurecting a dead fan, to life with saints row the third!
2 of 3 found this helpful i played, and purchased th original saints row, and although it was playable, i felt it alittle too hard, and NOTHING even close to GTA, more like gta:sa but gta was better, i didn't play it much, and pretty much disreguarded any new saints release. needless to say, i pretty much was dead to the series.
cut to about 2months ago, i was looking into videos on Yt, AND EVENTUALLY said "what the heck" and bought it for 31 bucks, when i got it, i didn't like it too well, but more sooner and than later it became a GREAT game.
its customization is great, from the charactor creation screen, to the many shops, you can be a zombie, or a super hero, or pirate in this game, to being a gangsta, to an alien, to a dominatrix o.o, the posssibilitys are endless, and its system leaves you free to do side missions, and activitys, or just speed through the main campaighn. one thing hated about saints row 1, was the REQUIERMENT of respect, you had to do some rediculasly hard activitys to progress through the game to the point that you stop.
but that is all gone in this one, and you can go at your own pace, considering your the boss of this game, you don't need anymore respect to prove yourself. i like that, however respect is now used as a leveling, and reward system that turns the saints series into a rpg, with respect levels, and upgrades like dual weilding, to collectable locators, while you need respect, you also need LOTS and LOTS of cash, (just a warning) the game isn't too hard, but its far from easy, but a very good balence.
the graphics, and sound are good, the radio music is (well to me) a great sellection, from classics from the 80's and 90's, to death metal, and hip hop selection, to new age techno and pop, it was in great taste to me.
all round, it is a great game, HOWEVER the only con's i can find, is its seemingly short campaighn length, i am about 15hrs into the story, while doing a few activitys here and there. and am like 70% done. even with finishing up all activitys, and collectables, i will only log about 25-30hrs max. so its short, and its activitys once again, are extremely challenging and difficult. so that is what gives it the 4/5 rating.
with that said, EVERYTHING else is great, and i feel just the disk alone, would justify a 50, maybe even 60$ price tag, it really is a great game, has made a dead fan be brought back to life, this originally (to me) was a knock off of GTA, now is a well respected compitition to them.
but keep in mind, this is no gta, BY NO MEANS, gta 4 is a much better game, and if you haven't played it yet, i emplore you to buy it insted, but really look into this one as well, it is much more over the top, and will quench diffrent peoples thurst's for video games. but in my oppinion, gta is still better, but this is a very good game as well, it has changed my entire veiw on the series, and has made a fan out of me. :)

boring, and blan...... at first!
i got this along with a few others for the holiday season, along with duke nuke forever, because i simply wanted over the top games, and i got that and more with DNF, and at first i felt that BS (bulletstorm) was a little blan at first, and the jokes and dialogue was so-so, HOWEVER once the skillsot system is introduced, it becomes fun, and then once other weapons become available (and they come in rather soon) it becomes really fun, and then once the other characters come into play.... their dialogue makes this game extremely fun, when i met the character "trishka" and heard hands down one of the most funniest things i have ever heard in a video game, where i paused the game, sat there, and laughed for like 5mins XD,
NOW, compared to DNF this game is much better visually, control wise, and replayability, dialogue, and actors, surpass DNF by a land slide, but as far as over the top-ness DNF stil beats it, however BS is still very over the top with humor, and very well written and fun.
like i said in my DNF review, this too, is a very VERY adult game, maybe not as much as DNF was, there is no nudity, or cruelity to women, and is not nessisarily for kids, but a much better alternative than DNF, i also bought the EPIC Edition which made the purchase all the more worth it, and i recomend splurging the extra dollar or so, to get the special pre order edition i got. (the epic edition just has special cover art, it isn't a special edition, not to confuse that, however, since it was a pre-order only deal, it is limited)
i am addicted to it, and will have some serious fun for weeks to come. i recomend this game to everyone.
