Good specs on paper, but a poor design.
The laptop has good specs on paper but needs to be built better and will only run slower than expected unless you are willing to bypass HP's performance limits.
Pros:
- If you are willing to use Intel XTU to increase the power limits, you can have decent performance for the price.
Cons:
- No USB-C charging unless the laptop is entirely powered off.
- No charge and dock from a Thunderbolt docking station unless you also plug in an official 200W HP barrel charger plugged in as well as the Thunderbolt cable.
- HP limits the TDP of the CPU to 20 W by default and it runs about 50% slower than other laptops. (you can bypass this with Intel XTU, but then you are managing the laptop manually)
You can get this open box from time to time at ~$850 and new for ~$1100 at best buy; at that price point it's a fair deal, but you have to deal with poor built quality, no USB-C charging, and having to tweak your CPU with software to run as specified. I wouldn't recommend this laptop to anyone.
