Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+ (Nintendo Switch, 2017)
May 14, 2019
Not for newcomers
I had always heard that the Switch version of Binding of Isaac reworked the unlock system so that aspects of the DLC were gradually unlocked as you went. That is true to some extent, but Nicalis/Edmund didn't do nearly enough. For the newcomer I think this would be completely overwhelming. I played 120 hours of Rebirth, and 120 hours of the original (odd coincidence), and while it's been awhile since I've played, the amount of new content and difficulty from the start was a little much even for me. Maybe I just feel like the DLC adds *too* much content to an already very fully-featured game, but I feel like those who really want to get into Binding of Isaac: Rebirth should get the base game first, then add the DLC later. This is a nice package on Switch though.
Retro-Bit Tribute 64 Controller for Nintendo N64 Original Port Ocean Blue

It's no Hori Mini... But it's a lot cheaper
A Hori Mini pad but a bit bigger, and a lot cheaper? This sounded perfect! Unfortunately, it's not quite the Hori killer I had hoped for. What it comes down to is that this controller feels kind of cheap. Compared to a Hori Mini: - The slightly larger size feels good! This is the biggest compliment I would give it, as the slight size increase helps with ergonomics a lot. - It feels lighter and flimsier. Overall build quality leaves a lot to be desired - All the buttons feel worse- they have more throw and almost a clicky feeling to them, but like a plastic mashing plastic feeling. Not too troublesome if you're not comparing back and forth between a 1st-party controller or a Hori Mini I guess. - The stick is shorter than the Hori Mini's and springs back to center less quickly. The Hori Mini's stick is unique but I really like it- it comes closer to feeling like an updated version of the original N64 stick than this does. An N64 stick in good condition has a very satisfying snap back to center that just isn't there on this controller. From my testing the stick does have adequate range and functions properly though, unlike a lot of 3rd-party N64 controllers. - The D-Pad is just about as bad as the Hori Mini's, but so few N64 games use it it's not worth worrying about (if you're playing Kirby 64 or Pokemon Puzzle League you should be using the standard controller anyway) This would be 3 stars if Hori Mini controllers hadn't skyrocketed in price, mainly because it feels kind of cheap. As it stands, this is close enough for those who want to save quite a lot of money, and looks good because of how many god-awful 3rd party controllers there are for the N64 that don't even function correctly. I would have paid $10 more for a higher quality version of this that could have been a true Hori Mini replacement, but that's not really Retro-bit's market I guess. This will be my player 2 controller instead (player 3 if I can ever get the parts to fix my original controller's stick).
