Catalogue of Adam Period Furniture, Victoria and Albert
A very useful resource for those interested in furniture designed of Robert Adam, a very important figure in the history of design, and a bridge between the styles of Chippendale and Hepplewhite. The book documents many of the museums important holdings with concise yet detailed descriptions.. a must for dealers and collectors. Interesting info from the book includes pictures of shield back chairs attributed to Adam, whereas this form is generally accredited to Hepplewhite. So, even experienced furniture collectors can learn something here. Even if your specialty is Americana, you can still benefit greatly from a study of English furniture, from which so virtually all important 18th century American furniture styles are derived. Overall, a fine book that is well worth owning.
