Reach Out for Motown
I grew up in Detroit, and remember being vaguely flattered when I would purchase a 45 record with a map of Michigan with a yellow star indicating Detroit. My father has played trumpet in Jazz bands for his entire life, and incredibly, is friends with many of the musicians listed as "Funk Brothers" on the credits, without being aware of what that meant. I am flabbergasted to have known several Funk Brothers myself without knowing they were Funk Brothers. Now I do, and watching this DVD with my father was an amazing experience. I love this DVD - it brings to light a part of history that previously was unknown, even to players in the music scene in Detroit. It is amazing to think that these musicians would remain largely unrecognized, except for this DVD. A fascinating slice of music history!
