Pete Maravich - The Birth of a Legend
2 of 2 found this helpful This movie was not what I expected it to be, but was actually better that what I thought it would be. I purchased this movie at the same time I purchased some other instructional type dvds featuring Pete Maravich. So I was thinking that this would be along the same lines. What I got instead, is the story of Pete Maravich's youth, being told in the first person by Pete Maravich (as potrayed by an actor of course). There is not one minute of real footage of the real Pete Maravich. It is the story of how he makes the varsity high school basketball team as an 8th grader and leads them to a championship season.
I bought this movie because I have two sons who are now playing basketball and I wanted them to get some instruction from someone other than me who might inspire them to work harder and do better. If you have children playing basketball and want to give them a sense of the hard work and sacrifice necessary to succeed in a vey competitive sport, then this is the right movie for you. It is very well written and done. It is clean. It wholesome. It is about the love shared for each other by a father and son and their common love of the game of basketball. There are some great life lessons contained within it. It will never win an Acadamy Award, but it is a very good movie.
