Handbook for the Recently Deceased

Item better than my low expectations
Bought this item on 12/12/19 and received it on 12/16/19. Self-publishing is still a mystery to me. This version of Handbook of the Recently Deceased journal, for example, with ISBN 9781979711821, was originally published on 11/07/2019. My book says in one of the back pages that it was printed on 12/13/2019 in Monee IL. How do they print self-published books so fast? I was expecting a sloppily printed book with cheap, thin paper and a cheap look to the printing inside. But the paper feels like it is 24# or better and the printing is fine. I am looking to collect all the versions of HOTRD, from lined to blank ones, and I like that in this one, it is lined and there are margins around the pages. I also like the page numbers, and to a certain extent the headers, but the headers could be a better font. The pages are off-white, which is nice. The paperback cover is matte, which I like, but it's a subpar pale imprint of the original book it is adapted from, making it look like a cheap self-published book. The faux canvas look is a nice touch, though. There is a title halfheartedly printed on the spine like a second thought, but I am glad there is one at all. The cover image is also off-center; there is too much space on the bottom. The binding is well done. However, it does not lay completely flat for writing. Measures 6 x 9 x 0.5 inches. Approx. 200 pages.

Beautifully crafted book journal
Very professionally made book journal. Cloth bound hard cover. Love that there is a title on the spine. The pages are thick. The price is somewhat worth it for a small batch product that's so well made, although the size could be bigger for the price. But as is, it's satisfactory for my journaling needs. It's nearly perfect, save for the lack of a ribbon marker. Would have loved that little detail.

Starts light, then darkens on paper
The yellow Inkjoy gel pen is a little bit of magic. You write with it and the ink is initially light, but then darkens before your very eyes! Yellow pens are normally unusable due to the inks not showing up very well on white paper, but this one is worth buying.
