If you can't have it fresh...!
Next best thing to fresh basil for seasoning. Sometimes you find dried herb bottles filled with stems, brown bits and looks like the herbs were dried way beyond their peak of freshness. With this brand you can tell the herbs were freeze dried at their peak. There is always nothing but nice bright green (freeze dried) crushed leaves!
