subwoofer is defective

No matter how the subwoofer was hooked up it played poorly and started smelling burnt like the coil was heating up. With minimal base turned on and the alpine amp turned all the way down. My father in law has the same subwoofer and I was pleased with how awesome his sounded so I bought mine and can't even enjoy it. Not thirty minutes after I installed the subwoofer and started testing it the cone and dust cap started separating. I glued it and didn't make a bid deal cause my father in law did the same. But then all the problems started occurring and now I'm super dissapointed. Now I'm out of a working subwoofer and money
