Qty(1) Hood Lift Support Gas Strut for Audi A4 A4 Quattro A5 Quattro S4 S5 09-15

Good inexpensive replacement
There's not much to say. Installation with this time of fitting is only daunting if you've never done it before, but after that, it's simple. 15 minutes later, my old, dead strut is on the ground and the new one is doing its job perfectly. I don't know what a reasonable time for it to last would be, but the O.E. strut was dead when I bought the car at 6 years old, so they don't last forever. At this price, I think anything that lasts over a couple of years is a bargain. It beats the shower rod I was using to hold the hood up! I don't think I want to give Audi good reviews for using a strut in that design in the first place. My 21-year-old GMC truck's hood-holding mechanism is still going strong, and why shouldn't it - it's an iron rod! But if they're going to use something fancy, especially something fancy that can fail, it's nice that inexpensive aftermarket components can do the job well. Thanks!

A great upgrade
The laptop I got had a DVD-ROM drive only, but I discovered I could upgrade. The UJ272 appears to be the top of the line. Probably better than I need, frankly, and I might never burn a 100GB BD disk, but it's nice to know this burner will handle it if I do.

Don't send that laptop gently into that good night!
eBay is the place to go for stuff that's just a little bit behind the curve. Case in point: I bought a Dell D810 with a ridiculously nice 1920x1200 display. Sure won't run Windows 8, but it runs Linux like a champ. How much for a machine that was $3000 in 2007? $23.50. Still, all I had to put in it for a hard drive was a crummy old 5400 rpm one. That's worse than the slow CPU. And it's a pre-SATA machine, so what to do? eBay to the rescue again, selling me a sweet 100GB PATA drive for $40. Runs plenty fast enough for what I use it for now, and I'm not saving movies, so what do I need 1TB for? eBay has done very well at weeding out lousy resellers. I've bought tons of stuff from folks with good feedback, and I've had very good results.
