well worth the cost as a refurb
I bought a refurbished unit.
Everything works as it should---fire display, quartz heater, all controls, remote. Cabinet is cheap plywood, but I knew that going in. It looks fine, however. Being on casters is convenient. Cord is a bit short. I've seen high-end models with fancier fire displays, but this one is fine. Three dimming levels and an off option are nice features.
Only con for me is that the heater fan is noisier than I'd like, and even the fire display generates audible noise (I assume the fire effects display technology uses moving parts, perhaps a rotating drum). I don't know if an expensive model would be quieter, however.
All in all, good value for a $73 refurb, but I'm glad I didn't pay $200 for what is basically a low-end model. I like it so far. The only question is how it'll hold up over time. I doubt that it's built to last forever, but then, what is these days?
