S.H. Figuarts Iron Man 3 Iron Man Mk-XX Python Bandai Limited Japan NEW
Oct 23, 2019
Among the best Iron Man figures available
The Python armor (Iron Man Mk XX) is largely made of reused pieces from the Mk VII (Avengers) armor. The substantial differences are the legs being a new, slightly bulkier mold, and the paint. The black and gold provide a nice contrast and are pleasing to the eye.
However, if you're looking for the black and gold armor from the comics, this isn't it. The Marvel Now armor in the comics was largely patterned after the Mk IV from the movies. The colors are laid out differently on the Mk XX, with alternating black and gold. The name "Python" doesn't seem to have anything to do with the armor. It looks more like a bumblebee than a snake.
The figure comes with all the alternate parts and display options that the Mk VII came with: alternate hands, extended wind flaps on the back, alternate weapons pieces for the forearms, and blast effects for the palm repulsors and boot jets.
If you have any of the other SHF Iron Man figures, you pretty much know what you're getting here (especially if you have the Mk VII, which shares a good 50% of its pieces with the XX). The figure is highly articulated and posable. It makes a great display piece, on its own or added into a Hall of Armors setup. While the figure has a good heft to it (thanks in part to a few diecast bits), and will have no problems holding up to posing and handling, it is not a toy meant for children to play with (if the price tag didn't make that clear ;) ).
SH Figuarts are some of the best figures on the market in their scale, especially when it comes to the Iron Man armors. The crispness of the sculpting and molding, the engineering of the articulation, solid paint, and fidelity to the screen models put most mass retail release figures to shame.
If you can only get one figure, Python might not be it. It was barely seen filling out the crowd shots in Iron Man 3, its only film appearance. The Mk III, IV, VII, 43, 45, 50, or 85 are much more iconic representations of the hero. But Python is a nice figure if you're not worried about having just one definitive Iron Man in your collection.
