A timeless classic
A highly-impressive debut by the sisters McGarrigle, generally rated now as one of THE definitive recordings of the 1970's, but which today still sounds every bit as fresh as when it first appeared. Hard to categorise musically, sometimes superficially bouncy but with a hint of sadness in the lyrics (eg. "Kiss and say goodbye", "Foolish you", "Complainte pour Ste. Catherine", "Swimming song"), sometimes jazzy (eg. "Tell my sister"), sometimes achingly bittersweet (eg. "My town", "Heart like a wheel", "(Talk to me of) Mendocino"), and more besides, all delivered with the most delicate and wonderful of vocal harmonies. It's become even more poignant now with the recent passing-away of Kate. So if this CD has somehow passed you by until now, you owe it to yourself to check it out. It's a true classic!

Overlooked masterpiece
Lynn Miles seems to be a relatively overlooked artist in the UK, possibly because she's from Canada or because her music doesn't fit comfortably into the usual neat conventional categories. Don't let this put you off. This is a wonderful album by an artist at the height of her (considerable) talents, and worth checking out. Personal favourite tracks include "Flames of love", a gentle rocker to start with, "Night drive", which is nominally about an overnight journey but really about the journey through life, and "This is the night", which is a bouncy, truly life-affirming song. However, there isn't a dud track on the whole CD. If you like music by artists such as Shawn Colvin, try this - you won't regret it!
