Irwin Hanson 53227 25pc. Multi-Spline Screw Extractor Set

Excellent extractor set

My problem was a hex plug that would not unscrew. The steel plug had fused with the aluminium housing of the transfer case. I spent hours trying to remove the plug with (first) a hex drive. I then tried an assortment of tools without any success. I purchased this Irwin Hanson extractor set. To my surprise the plug came out within minutes! Once I had selected the correct size bit, I tapped it in with a hammer (moderately, for the splines to grip). And then simply unscrewed the plug.... This set is very complete (probably overkill for my needs) and will cover practically any size of fastener. The bits are made of hardened steel, and do not show any sign of wear from the extraction. I actually spent more time trying to remove the extractor bit from the plug, than in actually unscrewing the plug in the first place...
