Yesterday's best can still be plenty good enough

update for ageing lenovo thinkpad t440. with ssd drive and debian linux. goes like the clappers. good for a few more years. they really don't make them like this anymore, unless you have mega bucks and even then.. (it's not easy to install cos you really need to download the manual and work through carefully. it is not for the inexperienced or faint-hearted)

Extend the life of an ageing laptop

My T400 was slow, partly it's a slow processor but mainly because of disk activity so I fitted an SSD as boot drive and a 1TB hard disk in the drive caddy for non-critical programme installation and data storage. Like a new machine.
