Classic Atari Racing Game
While Mario Kart dominates the current racing scene as it relates to video games it owes its heritage to this incredibly simple and fun game. Indy 500 was one of the original nine games released in 1977 by Atari and was the only official release to ever use the Driving Paddles. Multiple tracks and varying surface conditions for racing really made this a marvel at the time. Plus, it remains one the THE best two-player games on the Atari 2600. The misconception about the games for the 2600 is that because they are simple and graphically challenged that they are not fun. The opposite is true. Due to the limited graphics it was the actual gameplay that had depth. Don't get me wrong, there are lots of stinkers out there for the 2600, but the reward is finding the ones that are true gems.....and of these there are also many, including Indy 500. Should you want more variety from this game you can purchase Indy 500 XE from AtariAge which has different tracks.
