Great toy with Windows 8!
These HP Stream 13 laptops with the touchscreen are just wonderful toys, if you can find them (don't think they are made any more). The trick is to find one that still has Windows 8 on it, because that will still leave about half of the very small hard drive free. Once it has Windows 10 on it, it's a constant battle to keep the hard drive from filling up.

Attractive and useful used budget laptop from Asus
The now discontinued Asus x401a was a nicely appointed relatively budget laptop when introduced, with a striking design and color scheme (including cherry red and lime green!). Never a speed demon, it functions well for basic computing, if a little slowly, with a larger hard disc drive, I have several in my collection, and I partner them with an old Wacom digital drawing tablet, which I use instead of the track pad (far easier to navigate, I think). There are still used units popping up regularly on eBay, and some of them are real bargains. Batteries are still readily available on both eBay and amazon. So, obviously not a unit for gamers, but still pleasant and useful.

An elegant and useful toy!
This little Dell is just better quality overall than some of the other 10 inch tablets with detachable keyboards. Faster processor and more storage. I need to see if one can upgrade to Windows 10. For my purposes, though, it works fine. Lots of fun.
