Cheap and gets the job done
If you just need any old CPU in order to have a working machine, and can find a motherboard for it, then this makes a lot of sense.
That said, you can buy a socket 1151 Pentium for not much more (around $50 CAD, or less than $40 USD) and have a much faster and more power efficient CPU. However, in the case of the Pentium, you will end up spending more on a newer 100 or 200 series motherboard and DDR4 RAM which is pricey these days.
Still, the Pentium will have far better performance, so is probably the better option for anyone building a system that will see regular/more intensive use or even gaming (when paired with a discrete graphics card at least).
